IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW…

What’s a Pitc?

A logline is a one sentence description about what your story is about. Mastering the skill of writing a great logline is a must for every screenwriter. Apart from the title, it’s the first thing your script is going to be judged by. And if the logline isn’t great, a producer could pass on your script without ever even reading it. A great logline should be a single sentence, preferably in 30 words or less. It should convey information about the genre, protagonist, antagonist, conflict, setting, and theme. And if your project is high concept, we should be able to envision the entire movie in our heads after reading your logline. Writing a great logline is an art form all on it’s own, and it requires practice.

What’s a Comp?

A comp is a comparable film to yours. Producers and executives will want to know a few comps for your project. You want to do your research when selecting comps. The comps you select need to have been successful at the box office, and they should be recent, preferably in the last few years. Producers and executives want to know that there is an existing market for your project.
